Countries to choose

An education abroad is expensive.  Hence students should research extensively before making their country and university choice to gain maximum benefit in terms of career prospects. United States is the most popular choice amongst students. Other favorites are the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and even New Zealand.

A few students looking for specialized courses would opt for an educational opportunity in Singapore, Switzerland, France or Germany.  For research-oriented programs such as the Master’s degree we recommend that you pursue a degree in the United States. The democratic and innovative spirit of the American culture will ensure that you will be at the helm of the most recent trends in terms of research.  For an MBA degree United States and United Kingdom are the top choices.  A student looking for a hotel management would opt for a degree in Switzerland, which is renowned for its hospitality industry.

 

Educational system in each country

India

In India after one completes the 10th grade the student is enrolled in junior college for the 11th and 12th grade.  The Bachelor’s degree is spread over 3 years, except in the case of professional degrees.  Engineering and Pharmacy courses are spread over 4 years while a Medical degree is spread over 5 years including the internship.   The Master’s degree is spread over two years and a Doctoral degree or the Ph.D. is spread over 3 years. 

USA

 In America, high school is spread over four years from the 9th to the 12th grade.  The Bachelor’s degree is a four-year degree across all majors. Some schools offer pre-professional major’s which are also spread over the four year degree example the pre-med or pre-law major if you want to pursue a career in Medicine or Law.  The Master’s degree is a two-year degree.  Students inclined towards a research oriented program would pursue the Ph.D. degree which is a four to six year degree depending on the nature of the research work that is being carried out.

UK

One completes his ‘O Level’ followed by the ‘A Level’ before he begins college. These are the basic requirements for entry into the bachelor’s degree. The undergraduate program in the UK is similar to the 3-year pattern followed in India. The Master’s degree is again a two year program while the Doctoral degree is spread over approximately four years.

Canada

Secondary school is spread from the 9th to the 12th degree.  In some provinces, for example, Ontario, the student must complete 13 years prior to enrolling for a Bachelor’s degree.

Australia

Follows pattern similar to India. 12 + 3 to get a Bachelor’s Degree followed with 2 years of Masters. Students inclined towards a research oriented program would pursue the Ph.D. degree which is a three to four year degree depending on the nature of the research work that is being carried out.

New Zealand

Follows pattern similar to India. 12 years of high school plus 3 years to get a Bachelor’s Degree followed with 2 years of Masters. Students inclined towards a research oriented program would pursue the Ph.D. degree for three to four years depending on the nature of the research.

Singapore

Follows pattern similar to India. 12 years of high school plus 3 years to get a Bachelor’s Degree followed with 2 years of Masters. Students inclined towards a research oriented program would pursue the Ph.D. degree which is a three to four year degree depending on the nature of the research work that is being carried out.
